Laurie Messer

Laurie is a literacy expert, trained in the Science of Reading, whose experience in education spans kindergarten through 12th grade. With over 25 years of experience, she has worked as a classroom teacher, department chair, elementary and high school literacy specialist, a division-level literacy coach and school transformation partner in several Central Virginia school divisions. Her work has included creating and providing professional development at the school, division, and state levels as well as nationally and abroad. In addition to professional development, Laurie has extensive experience in curriculum design, coaching, and data analysis for administrators, teachers, and paraprofessionals.

Laurie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in English from Radford University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Virginia with a concentration in Reading Education. She is a certified K-12 Reading Specialist and holds a teaching endorsement in English.

Laurie resides in Chesterfield, VA with her husband and chocolate lab, Bella.
