Alissa Straus

Alissa brings over 23 years of dedicated experience in education, both as a classroom teacher and a division Social Studies Specialist in Henrico County. She is deeply committed to the field of social studies, focusing on enhancing students’ critical thinking skills and understanding of the world. Her expertise and enthusiasm for integrating technology into education have led her to present at local, state, and national conferences in both social studies and educational technology. Alissa is actively involved in her state’s social studies organization and is a member of the National Council for the Social Studies. Her passion also extends to supporting educators, aiming to empower them to effectively support all learners. In addition to her primary roles, Alissa serves as adjunct faculty for Henrico’s career ladder program, teaching the Diverse Learners cohort. Her work emphasizes the importance of performance assessment and the development of educational practices that cultivate a thoughtful and informed society.
