Making Moves to Reach All Learners Through Building Thinking Classrooms (BTC)
Making Moves to Reach All Learners Through Building Thinking Classrooms (BTC)
Description:
Educators often ask, “But what about…?” when implementing Building Thinking Classrooms (BTC). This session is designed to address those questions head-on by showcasing practical strategies—what we call “moves”—that have emerged through ongoing collaboration with teachers.
We recognize that BTC is just one of many powerful pedagogical approaches shaping mathematics instruction today. That’s why this session focuses on intentional integration, demonstrating how BTC can be thoughtfully aligned with other key initiatives, including Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and 7 Steps to a Language-Rich Classroom.
Through our customized companion playbook, we’ll share how these frameworks can be interwoven to support diverse learners and foster deeper engagement in thinking classrooms. Participants will leave with access to this playbook, empowering them to continue adapting and collaborating to meet the evolving needs of all students.

Expected Impact:
By intentionally fostering empathy within classrooms, schools create more inclusive and emotionally safe environments where students feel seen, valued, and supported—laying the foundation for deeper engagement and academic risk-taking. As students build stronger problem-solving skills and learn to persevere through productive struggle, they develop resilience and confidence in their ability to tackle complex challenges. Collaborative learning structures further amplify this growth, helping students practice communication, teamwork, and shared accountability. At the school and district level, these shifts contribute to a culture of high expectations and mutual respect, strengthening instructional coherence and empowering educators to design learning experiences that are both rigorous and responsive to diverse student needs.
